Modelling debut! :)

Well Friday evening, with the Bury Free Press under my arm, and a huge smile on my face, I skipped home from work and popped open the Champagne!  I kept reading the article over and over in disbelief...!  I spoke to Grandad on the phone and told him all about it.  He sounded really pleased, I have a big stack of papers to send to everyone who doesn't live in Bury :)

Saturday I had a nice sleep in after a hectic week and then had a nice leisurely day pampering and getting ready...shaving legs, plucking eyebrows, varnishing nails and toes...I was so excited!  That evening the clock seemed to stop...the same way it does on Christmas Eve! ;)

Sunday morning arrived...the 29th January...the day I had requested off at work 'just in case'!  I laid there awake long before the alarm went off...as soon as I woke, my mind started going over everything and I knew I would not get another wink!  I jumped out of bed and was eager to start getting ready!  I showered and washed my hair - using as little conditioner as I could get away with so it wasn't too silky being put up!

I was ready, I checked my bag over and over making sure I had everything, forced down some breakfast even though eating was the furthest thing from my mind, visited the bathroom at least 10 times and then we were ready to leave!

Kev drove me to the Farmers Club and I saw Debi and Tara straight away from Bury Bridal Rooms which immediately put me at ease.  We got in and I met the other Bridal Models who were all lovely and were obviously doing their best to make me feel welcome and calm!  One by one we all started getting our hair done...mine was up in barrel curls with a cute little tiara and a veil...nice different look from my own wedding!  We all had different styles and I was amazed at how quickly the hairdresser got these styles in and looking beautiful!  Oh how I wish I could do that...I cant even curl my own hair!!

After hair was make up time :)  Then we were all shown around the Cat Walk and I was told what I needed to do...."walk slowly, milk it, enjoy it, show off the dresses!"....really? WOW I am going to enjoy this! Time to get the first dresses on...

My first dress was the Kate Middleton dress...apart from it being a little big on the bust (no surprise there), it was lovely!  I was to walk out second so I could watch Jane in action before me.  My heart was pounding...no time to feel nervous now...time to get out there!  As soon as I walked out I saw some faces from work and then Kev, Claire and Adam at the back watching me with big smiles on their faces...I instantly felt calmer!  I walked along the balcony spinning and twirling and showing off the dress....then the challenge of gracefully getting down the stairs without falling and whilst holding up a huge train....but I managed it and saw a lovely grinning Claire at the bottom of the stairs....I did a final twirl there and then ran up the back stairs for a quick change!

After the 5 brides, there were 2 bridesmaids and then 3 grooms....we got back upstairs and found ourselves waiting for the boys....and they say that ladies take forever to change! LOL.  So for the second dresses, we were told we were going out one at a time to give the boys longer to change...ok I can do that...I walked out and along the balcony, twirled, posed, twirled some more, posed some more, headed down the stairs and back round again for my final dress!  Loving it, loving it, loving it!

Into my third dress and feeling quite emotional!  It was a beautiful dress covered in roses with an amazing train!  My heart skipped a beat as I heard Debi say that the dress was called "English Rose"....just what Nanny always called me...now that made me choke up...almost like she was giving me a sign that she was watching....I beamed...the whole feeling was euphoric!

Out onto the cat walk again in this lovely dress, I went nice and slowly and enjoyed every second!  Then everybody was out again for the finale and it was all eyes on me!  I was to go out first and stand at the bottom of the stairs for the presentation of prizes...I also spotted Fran in the audience too, a close friend of ours, I was really touched she had gone out her way to come and see me.  I was grinning from ear to ear as the list of prizes was read out for me:
A £75 voucher for Chica Shoes,
A meal for 2 voucher,
A handbag from Javelin,
A voucher for a cut and blow dry,
A voucher for some lingerie ;)
A voucher for a spa treatment,
A voucher for Lilyo and best of all
A photo shoot with Alex Kilbee - renowned wedding photographer in Suffolk...I had seen his website and was really happy with this prize! :D

The show finished and I ran into Kevin's arms!  I was so happy, he was obviously so proud of me!  In fact, it seems that Kev's love for me is obvious for the world to see as I got a message the next day from the photographer who said that he had watched Kev during the show and that "If pride was a beacon he would have shone out like a searchlight. He never took his eyes of you which were so full of love and pride for you."  Aaawww what a lovely thing to say!  I was so pleased to get some feedback the next day when i was told that "what I saw in you today was something I haven't seen for many years. A young woman fulfilling a dream. you had become yourself and shone through with confidence and belief in yourself."   Now that made me cry  - a perfect way to end a perfect week!

......and the best bit is that there may well be opportunities to do more Wedding Fair Fashion Shows.....It was so nice to hear..."Welcome to the team!"

I am so, so happy!  Not only because I finally got the chance to model which was a dream come true but because people obviously view me as a confident, happy young lady...which is exactly what I am!  :D  I no longer have any hang ups about anything to do with my past...all my hard work changing my life around has all paid off and no one from my past has any place in my future!...I would, however, love to raise awareness and help others to get through tough times and move on to happier lives...anything is possible with hard work and determination and I am living proof of that! :D

...Pose!
