No, Kevin does not have MILD Cystic Fibrosis!!!

I am so proud of my husband at the moment!  In the last few months, he has started on a quest for healthier lungs and weight gain!  He has already done amazingly well and at the last measurement, has gained 6.5 inches overall!  As most of you will know, any weight gain for someone with CF is quite an achievement so to see weight gain after only two months is fantastic!

However, I do get so frustrated with people and their opinions!  Kevin is now 45 years old and healthier than I have ever seen him.  At his last hospital appointment almost a year ago, his lung function was 85% and we both know that it is much higher than that now, just by how he is in daily life!  He has so much energy!  Last night we went out for a Charity Fundraising night for one his friends who died from CF.  We literally danced all night and he didn't get breathless at all!  He really enjoyed dancing...it makes me so happy to see him like this!

Over the years he has put in so much effort into maintaining his health!  He has not had any IV medication or 'normal' CF treatment since he was 26 years old, almost 20 years ago!  He has found his own way of using natural remedies to effectively treat his CF, not only by keeping it at bay but by improving his health!

I just wish people would give him a little credit for all the hard work he has put in sometimes!  He is not 'just a rebel', he is not 'just lucky' and he does not have MILD CF!!!  How offensive for people to suggest that he has a mild form of this horrible disease rather than acknowledge that he has found different methods which work well for him!

He has told me of times when he has been really unwell!  He has had bad chest infections, bowel obstructions and many other complications due to CF over his years but has worked his way through them slowly and surely!  He says that when he was 26 and was having his first PICC line inserted for IV medication, a nurse said to him "get used to this, its a slippery slope from here on!"  How dare she!!!  As a nurse, I would never say something so awfully insensitive!  What made her think she could take away someone's hope of life like that??!  Anyway, Kev being the stubborn guy he is, looked at her and laughed and vowed that he never would have another line or another IV.....and to this day he has stuck to his word!

Surely he should be given some credit for what he has done!  Granted, his methods are not for everyone, and he would be the first person to advise against it if someone's health was not good.  Can people not see that to get to 45 and be as healthy as he is, should be a celebration?  Surely he must be doing something right?  Do people think he is really just playing around, just experimenting?  He is known by many CF people as 'Mr Controversial'...like it is a crime to be someone 'different'!

If he gets this wrong - he will DIE, simple as that!  This lifestyle is not something he takes lightly!  I, our friends and all the family can see what a difference this has made to him and his lungs in just a few months!

It makes me very excited about the future when I see Kev getting healthier and healthier!  I am confident that we have many happy years of married life together to come!  I am a very happy Wife!

Way to go Kev, I love you! xxxx
